I don’t design objects. I follow materials until they become something worth keeping.

Born in Barcelona and based in The Netherlands, Pepe Valenti is an artist working across sculpture, product and installation design. He studied at Design Academy Eindhoven, gratuated at 2022, and has developed a practice at the intersection of art and collectible design. At the

Design Academy Eindhoven he followed the Bachelor’s programme: the Bachelor of Design. He graduated from the Food Non Food department because it was the most conceptual and gave him the most freedom to make the work he wanted. Valenti approaches material through direct experimentation. Rather than beginning with a fully resolved drawing, he tests processes physically, allowing resistance, failure and unexpected effects to redirect the work. This method of thinking through making gives technique an active role in the final form.

Materiality is central to Pepe Valenti's practice. He is interested not only in how a material looks, but in how it bends, reflects, carries weight and records the process used to shape it. Marks that might normally be treated as mistakes can become the defining quality of a piece. Through repeated testing, Valenti develops refined objects whose surfaces retain a sense of the raw experiment from which they emerged.

His work often explores the changing relationship between light, movement and perception. In the El Mar collection and installation, hand-shaped stainless steel with reflective chrome surfaces evokes sunlight moving across the sea. The metal does not reproduce water literally. Instead, its irregular planes fragment and redirect light, creating an optical experience that changes as the viewer moves. The work occupies a threshold between object and environment, with reflection becoming part of the material itself.

Across furniture, sculpture and installation, Valenti balances visual clarity with sensory intensity. His objects may retain the scale or logic of design, but they are not limited to function. They are conceived as spatial presences that can alter the atmosphere around them. Natural references are translated through industrial techniques, while polished finishes remain connected to a hands-on process.

Pepe Valenti's work has been presented in international art and design contexts including Milan Design Week, Art Miami and PAN Amsterdam. His practice continues to move between independent experimentation, collectible objects and larger installations. NewHouse Gallery presents selected works by Pepe Valenti in Amsterdam.
