Born in Norilsk, Russia, in 1991, Dina Roudman is an abstract painter who lives and works in Toronto, Canada. Raised between Siberia, Kazakhstan and Israel, she spent twelve years working internationally as a model and actress before devoting herself fully to painting. She is self-taught and works primarily with oil stick, acrylic and mixed media on large-scale canvases. Alongside painting, her practice extends to photography and acting, and that multidisciplinary background remains present in the physical, performative energy of her work.
Dina Roudman approaches painting as an intuitive, almost automatic act. Rather than planning a composition in advance, she lets the rhythm of her body guide each mark, working quickly and in layers. Mistakes are not corrected but embraced as part of the process. Free from academic conventions, she deliberately moves away from cold virtuosity in search of something more raw and essential: a direct translation of energy, emotion and colour onto the canvas.
The abstract paintings of Dina Roudman are defined by sweeping, rhythmic lines, vivid colour and an urgent, gestural speed. Dense passages of paint sit alongside open areas of raw canvas, while figurative forms briefly surface and dissolve again. Her works offer fragmented glimpses of memories and sensations that resist being put into words, leaving the viewer space to find their own associations within the movement of the surface.
Recent works by Dina Roudman, presented as a numbered series, continue this exploration of gesture and colour on a monumental scale. By titling the works simply by number, she keeps interpretation open and places the full emphasis on the experience of the painting itself.
