In her work, Floor Merjenburgh explores how materials behave when control is partially released. Rather than imposing form, she creates conditions in which gravity, pressure, and material resistance become active forces. Her practice is guided by intuition and a sensitivity to material behavior, resulting in objects that feel both intentional and shaped by chance. Her sculptures are meant to be experienced not only visually, but physically. The surfaces carry traces of movement, deformation, and material response. By allowing works to fall, shift, and settle, she gives form to moments where material and process take the lead.

FORM - deliberate tactility

With FORM Merjenburgh marks a shift toward larger scale and a more focused sculptural language. These works are created through a deliberate act of letting go. The material is released and shaped by gravity, resulting in dense, tactile forms that invite touch as part of the experience. Here, deliberate tactility becomes central. The moment of impact is embedded in the surface, giving each object a strong physical presence.

MERGED BY GRAVITY

Earlier in her practice, 'Merged by Gravity' explored a lighter, more playful dialogue between two clay forms. While smaller in scale, the series introduced Floor’s ongoing interest in gravity, chance and the way materials shape the final form.
