Art Rotterdam: A Duo Presentation | Claire Witteveen & Lotte Ekkel
NewHouse debutes with a duo presentation by Claire Witteveen and Lotte Ekkel
For Art Rotterdam, NewHouse presents a two-artist presentation bringing together the practices of Claire Witteveen and Lotte Ekkel, whose works explore the subtle relationship between structure, rhythm and perception.
Claire Witteveen’s paintings move between abstraction and figuration, unfolding like visual compositions. Inspired by music and the interplay between lyrics and melody, her works translate an auditory sensibility into painterly form. Fragmented architectural elements, objects and symbolic shapes emerge within layered surfaces, creating images that feel both intimate and cinematic.
Presented alongside these works is Lotte Ekkel’s photographic series Forging the Sun and Weaving the Moon. Drawing on Chinese philosophy and the dynamic balance between opposing forces such as yin and yang, Ekkel captures moments shaped by natural light, atmosphere and observation. Her images oscillate between intention and intuition, structure and stillness.
Together, the presentation explores how visual language can echo rhythm, balance and resonance, revealing unexpected connections between painting and photography.
