Milan Photofair (MIA) : Duo presentation of Carlie Consemulder & Lotte Ekkel
NewHouse presents works by Carlie Consemulder and Lotte Ekkel
At MIA Photo Fair, NewHouse presents a dialogue between the photographic practices of Carlie Consemulder and Lotte Ekkel, brought together through a shared interest in perception, symbolism and quiet narrative.
Carlie Consemulder’s series Mint Condition, Monaco ’74 explores memory and its reconstruction. Her images evoke fragments of a past that feels both familiar and imagined, where contemporary figures move through atmospheres shaped by the visual language of earlier decades. The works unfold like stills from an unwritten film, leaving space for the viewer to complete the story.
A selection from Lotte Ekkel’s ongoing series Forging the Sun and Weaving the Moon is presented as a preview ahead of its full presentation during Art Rotterdam. Drawing on Chinese philosophy and the interplay of opposing forces such as yin and yang, the works reflect a practice that moves between intention and intuition. Working primarily with natural light and found situations, Ekkel captures moments where structure and stillness quietly meet.
Complementing these works, Ekkel’s Double Happiness images introduce a vibrant layer of colour and symbolism inspired by Chinese visual culture, where everyday scenes carry subtle references to fortune, balance and transformation.
Together, the works explore how photography can move between memory and presence, structure and intuition, revealing the poetic potential of the everyday.
