From June 17 to 22, Newhouse Gallery took part once again in Photo Basel. This year’s presentation featured new works by Carlie Consemulder, Nanda Hagenaars, and Lotte Ekkel. Three distinct voices that each in their own way ask for to the viewers for a slower look.
Carlie Consemulder reflects on memory through her series Desolate BLVD, drawing from the melancholic brightness of Los Angeles, and her personal childhood memories. Beneath their vivid surfaces, her photos hold a muted tension: the kind of loneliness only cities like Los Angeles carry.
Working with mirrors, glass and reflection, Nanda Hagenaars creates interruptions in surface and reality, inviting to understand the connections and emotions beyond what is visible.
Lotte Ekkel works with natural light as her primary source. Her photographs emerge from still, in-between moments, where silence and form briefly align.
Presented in the Volkshaus Basel, the booth offered a place of pause, a contrast to the fast rhythm of the fair.
