Kick Off Amsterdam Art Week '25: Nature's Visual Sound

19 May 2025

To kick off Amsterdam Art Week 2025, Newhouse Gallery hosted an intimate preview dinner around Nature’s Visual Sound. A captivating art installation by Sandra Keja Planken and the centre of A Liminal Nature, our exhibition for AAW '25.

On this special evening, guests experienced the space before it opens to the public: an environment where coral whispers echo through glass and fiber, and the boundaries between art and nature dissolve.

What begins as a single thread or shard of glass is transformed into a breathing installation. By using leftover and recycled yarns and powders, Sandra creates her one-of-a-kind pieces and raise awarness in the eye of the visitors. In close collaboration with institutes like Reef Renewal Bonaire & Resting Reef, she is working to obtain permits that allow her textile and glass sculptures to  become underwater homes for new coral life.

Sandra’s work is accompanied by pieces from Santiago Pani, Sanne Terweij, Mickey Philips, Floor Merjenburgh, and Rick Tegelaar—each exploring transformation, materiality, and the evolving relationship with the natural world.

The dinner was powerd by restaurant de Hondekop with chef Peter Bras.
