IN MY PAINTING, I SEEK A MOMENT OF CALM, USING INTUITION, NATURE AND MATERIALITY TO LET THOUGHTS AND EMOTIONS FIND BALANCE ON THE CANVAS.
Julie Haverkamp (1997, Rotterdam) is a Dutch painter whose practice unfolds between figuration and abstraction, guided by a search for calm, clarity and emotional resonance. Raised in a creative family, with two grandfathers who were architects. She developed a strong visual sensibility early on. What began with portraiture as a personal moment of focus has evolved into a mature body of work in which memory, intuition and material experimentation converge.

Julie’s process is largely intuitive. Her canvases are built through broad, free brushstrokes and deep, layered tones, combined with materials such as sand, linen and cotton. These tactile surfaces give her work a physical presence, where paint becomes both image and object. The result is a distinctive tension. Chaotic yet serene. Impulsive yet meditative. Julie’s move to Ibiza has become an essential influence on her practice. The rhythm of island life, the changing light, the sea and the surrounding nature inform both her palette and her pace. The environment offers space for reflection, allowing her work to slow down, breathe and become more distilled.
